Antique/Vintage Cut-Glass, Rokajl, and Iris Seed Beads These beads generally date back to the early 1900s circa 1920-1930. They were commonly used in 'flapper' purses, as well as earlier Victorian purses. Unless otherwise noted, all of the beads listed here are from period-piece rescues. They have been thoroughly washed and rehanked, and are ready for your unique creation.
Since they are rescues, it is unknown for certain whether these beads are French or Czech in origin. Generally, French bead holes run quite large, while Czech beads have rather small holes. Unless otherwise stated, our beads here are offered on standard 3-inch hanks that have 12 strands of beads, with each strand measuring 6 inches. In general, the smaller holes of these beads might require an English #15 needle.Because they are quite rare, quantities are limited. Please Do Not Order More than the Amount Available. These antique beads are shipped in custom boxes made from recycled materials (save a tree today!), with Delivery Confirmation and purchase price insurance. Returns of non-damaged, non-altered hanks are accepted within 14 days for the purchase price only, minus a 10% administration charge. Refunds will be in the form of business checks (Practical Solutions). We do not refund postage. |

Cut-Glass Beads I can't say for certain if these beads are French or Czech in origin, but the history of their production is fascinating. A long tube of colored glass was pulled, pressed into its facet, and then cut to the desired bead size. These rough beads were then agitated in a sand/grit medium, which polished them to their final form. Very often, they came to the bead artist strung on long spools wound around a wooden core. |
